Dankie TJ - Ons was juis die begin van die jaar by die sirkus - by Canal
Walk - en die tentjie was baie klein in vergelyking met die groot tente van
my kinderjare. Hulle het selfs 'n bietjie kabaret ingebring in die
vertoning - maar die tekens was daar - die orkes was een persoon wat die
tromme geslaan het vir die spannende oomblikke - verder was alle musiek
geblik.
Vandag se kinders en opvolgende geslagte sal nie eers weet waarvan ons praat
as ons praat van die wonderlike sirkusdae nie.
Inderdaad 'n tradisie wat verdwyn.

Het julle net so terloops geweet hier is van die Arabiese weermag se manne

Toentertyd, toe Clive Rice nog krietketkaptein was van Transvaal, kon hulle
vir een wedsryd net 10 fikse spelers bymekaarskraap.
" Ek sal speel" sê 'n stem, en Clive kom toe agter dis 'n perd wat met hom
praat.
Clive sê toe aan die perd - Gaaf, ons is desperaat. Jy kan op no 11 inkom.
Die wedstryd word toe gespeel met die ongewone 11de speler ( is dit wettig
om te speel sonder 'n 12de man?) en Clive beland toe in die situasie - soos
menigmaal tevore - dat hy en die 11de speler ( die perd in die geval) moet
lopies aanteken vir die 10de paaltjie.
Clive vra toe dat die perd net die balle moet blok totdat die boulbeurt oor
is, sodat hy, Clive, kan aangaan om lopies aan te teken.
Die perd knip oog vir Clive, en gaan slaan toe 4-6-6-4-6 van die boulbeurt.
Grote Griet!! wens Clive die perd geluk - en stel voor dat hy wat Clive is,
met die volgende bal net 'n enkele lopie sal hardloop, sodat die perd kan
aangaan om die bouler se (krieket)balle wild en wakker te moker.
So gedaan, maar Clive word uitgehardloop omdat Perd nie eers 'n pging
aanwend om te hardloop nie.
Met die terugstap kleedkamer toe vra Clive vir die perd hoekom hy nie die
lopie gehardloop het nie.
Perd sê toe - As ek kon hardloop, sou ek nie krieket gespeel het nie.

Verbeel jou hoe jy gaan voel as jy wegstap van 'n kompetisie soos Big
Brother en hoor wat die afgelope tyd gebeur het! Veral as jy die hele tyd
gedink het almal se aandag is net op jou daar binne gevestig.
