Tja, je kan hier ook zo moslims invullen heden ten dagen, zoals
het verhaal verteld word. Alleeen zie je hier wat er gebeurd
als een groep daadwerkelijk zich aanpast aan de cultuur, en dus
de kledng draagt etc.integratie dus, dan word het were gezien
al het binnesluipen van een cultuur.
Erg leerzaam zulke filmpjes, ook toen werd het merendeel
van crminalieteit toegedicht aan een andere bevolkingsgroep,
zien we dat heden ten dagen nog zo?

Wat kan gewone Suid-Afrikaners doen om misdaad hok te slaan

Misdaad - veral geweldsmisdaad! - is buite beheer, al probeer die
ANC-regering hoe hard ontken dat dit so is.

Die eerste plig van enige regering is om sy wetgeshoorsame burgers te
beskerm. Die regering doen nie sy plig nie! Dis 'n feit!

Maar hierdie pos is nie bedoel om die ANC-regering aan te val, te beledig,
in die beskuldigde bak te plaas of net 'n klaaaa- brief te wees nie.

Ek wil eintlik hê dat ons besin oor die vraag: Wat kan ons as gewone burgers
doen om misdaad hok te slaan? Want dat dit meer as net "effort" van die
regering gaan vra... - Dat 'n grootse burgerlike inisiatief nodig is! - is
duidelik.

Ek het my eie idees daaroor, maar ek wil graag hoor wat ander sê voor ek my
opinie lug.

Ontstaan van (Zuid-)Afrikaans

Dag mensen,

Ik neem aan dat u best Nederlands begrijpt.
Ik ben zo vrij hier een vraag te deponeren.

Het (Zuid-)Afrikaans is - dacht ik - in de jaren
1920 offieel ontstaan.

Er was dat bekende citaat, dat met zoveel woorden
als volgt luidde:
"Als Nederlands onze taal is, waarom spreken wij dat dan niet?
Als Afrikaans onze taal is, waarom schrijven wij dat dan niet?"

Zou iemand me kunnen zeggen hoe deze leuze luidde
in het (Zuid-)Afrikaans?

Afrikaans uitspreek.

Of all the poisonous fruits of the so-called "Spirit", healing seems to me
to be the most debased.

Speaking in tongues, I am bound to admit, I have done! During my student
years I took my newly acquired Greek skills to the floor of, if I recall
correctly, an Apostolic Faith Mission congregation. I passionately recited
passages from the Sermon on the Mount and an "interpreter" duly instructed
the convocation of saints to an effect that has long slipped my mind.

Mindless fun, speaking in tongues. If some godiot doesn't hear an
interpreter ordering her to kill, nothing but mild embarrassment should
result from the exercise.

But imbuing the terminally ill with the hope of healing and putting them in
harm's way for avoiding medical care is nothing but willful murder and
should be punishable by the full force of the law in the most complete sense
of the word.

In South Africa, this week, a former rugby star, Ruben Kruger, underwent
emergency surgery to remove a massive tumor from his brain - a medical
condition that was, for all intends and purposes, cured by one T. B. Joshua,
Nigerian prophet extraordinaire, in Lagos, Nigeria, in 2000.

TART reader and moderator of the leading South African Bulletin Board on
matters religious, Kletskerk, seasoned journalist Jean Oosthuizen, compiled
a history of Kruger's illness, giving a time-line of appalling events.

Kruger was obviously never healed by the mountebank Joshua, an individual
irreverently exposed as a charlatan on various occasions, notably by leading
South African television magazine and actuality programme, Carte Blanche, in
September 2000, and again by Professor Hansie Wolmarans of the University of
Johannesburg during the Sol Plaatje lectures in 2002, noting that it was
Afrikaans speaking Christians, especially, that supported Joshua. Wolmarans
concluded that traditional dogma made people superstitious, among other
things.

There is no doubt an argument to be made that the Kruger family has an
indefeasible right to seek their comfort and to pin their hopes as they
choose.

But "organised religion" must be held to account for incidents where its
tacit, and more often than not, its implicit support of idiotic expectations
does irrevocable harm to individuals, families, groups, communities and
peoples. Organised religion completely disregards human dignity - the Church's
supreme responsibility, if it has any right to existence! - by encouraging
false, baseless hope in fables and the tarradiddles of shysters.

It is significant that Dutch Reformed Church reverend, dominee Jannie
Pelser, during the time of Kruger's alleged healing, firmly established
himself on the T. B. Joshua bandwagon and stated categorically that he was
convinced, more than ever, that Joshua was not a false prophet (Beeld, June
28, 2001) and called attempts to discredit Joshua an evil plot (Beeld, May
21, 2001).

It is even more significant that while Pelser is still a pastor in good
standing within the Dutch Reformed Church at this time, Rapport reported
during May 2005 that the reverends Frik de Beer en Chris Liebenberg, of
Welgemoed, near Cape Town, were encouraged to break with the DRC, because
they promoted faith healing, among other apostate teachings.

Some weeks ago, three leading academics within the DRC were acquitted on
charges of "false teaching" relating, mostly, to their views on the physical
resurrection from the dead of the godman Jesus, an event alleged to have
occurred some 2,000 years ago.

Say what?

It is important to the DRC, as it is to all Christian churches, I hasten to
add, that its members be assured of the fact that its leading academics are
in line with current wisdom on hysterical, I mean historical, events
metaphysical. Yet DRC reverends, the likes of Pelser and Moreletapark's
Bennie Mostert, are publicly professing supernatural and post mortem fantasy
as fact. without as much as a whimper from the Moderator's Office.

What conclusion may one reasonably draw from the stunned silence of the DRC
leadership?

Concurrence. No doubt.

The DRC is sacrificing human dignity on the altar of expediency in a
desperate attempt to postpone the inevitable secession of disparate groups,
contrived, ironically, of bygone inerrancy.

Spawned of the noisome agglomeration of ignorance, mental faineance and
irrational fear; forged in the smithy of certitude; honed in the atelier of
fellowship and sold in the thrift shop of two penny bargains - religion is a
crucible for calamity.

Religion in the news

Morocco's serious humor gap

Although Americans can make light of their leaders, their enemies and even
the Iraq war, a fundamental challenge to freedom of expression is happening
just off our radar screen in Morocco. There, two of the country's leading
journalists face five-year prison sentences, crippling fines and/or being
banned from publication, all for an article about political humor.

Driss Ksikes is the editor of Nichane, a weekly magazine published in
Morocco's local drija Arabic dialect. The magazine's name means "direct,"
and it launched in September with a goal of bringing a fresh perspective to
a country emerging from decades of brutal civil rights repression under King
Hassan II, who died in 1999.

In a special edition of Nichane in early December, Ksikes published an
insightful cover story by up-and-coming writer Sanae Al Aji on humor in
Morocco. The piece, titled, "How Moroccans Laugh at Religion, Sex and
Politics," cataloged popular Moroccan jokes and invited social critics to
analyze the punchlines. As humor typically touches on social taboos, the
article discussed jokes mocking the king, Islamist imams and attitudes
toward women.

This is an election year in Morocco, and both the monarchy and the
opposition Islamist parties seized on the opportunity to make an example of
Nichane. Islamist websites branded the magazine worse than any Danish
publication, and the editors got death threats. Prime Minister Driss Jettou
issued an injunction banning it from newsstands and shutting its website.
Declaring the magazine a threat to the "fundamental values of Moroccan
society," prosecutors have now put Ksikes and Al Aji on trial in a
Casablanca court for "damaging the Islamic religion, lacking proper respect
for the king and publishing of writings contrary to public morals."

Morocco had been a symbol of hope for reform in the Mideast in recent years.
King Mohammed VI's father stifled public discourse and tortured opponents
for decades, but the new ruler has enhanced civil liberties, particularly
for women. That Al Aji has become the first female reporter to face prison
time in Morocco is a perverse sign of progress in gender equality.

Still, the door opened to a more vibrant public discourse. In 2005,
Nichane's parent publication - the French weekly TelQuel, aimed at the
country's Francophone elite - ran a cover expose on the king's salary. Other
TelQuel issues explored homosexuality and drug use in Morocco. The country
got its first journalism school, and many of its top graduates work for
Nichane. Now that staff is waiting to hear the verdict and learn the fate of
the magazine.

The banning of Nichane and the sentences hanging over Ksikes and Al Aji
painfully illustrate the fragility of newfound freedoms. Across North Africa
and the Middle East, dictators and Islamist political forces have been
emboldened. The movement toward greater freedom that seemed unstoppable a
few years ago is now being smothered.

Americans should see the fate of Nichane as a warning. The magazine offered
a model of investigative journalism and open inquiry for the rest of the
region. After all, the reporters did not invent the jokes in the "offending"
article, but rather dissected popular humor to examine Moroccan society.
This is the kind of critical journalism - probing, relevant and with popular
appeal - needed in the Arab and Muslim world.
