Groen is die land van Natal;
wyd lê die velde omheen.
Wolke seil hoog in die blou hemelboog
en 'n arend vlieg na die son.
Groen is die land van Natal;
daar waar die bergbokke wei
Stil wil ek droom langs 'n koel waterstroom,
van die wêreld-drang afgeskei.

Teen die randjie staan 'n huis
waar my hart ontwaak
Saans wag my beminde daar;
die dag is dan volmaak.

Groen is die land van Natal;

"Het politici hoër morele waardes as prostitute?"

Opmerking waarvan ek 110% gehou het: "Politicians are like a bunch of
bananas: all yellow, soft and not a single straight one amongst them."
Uitstekend!

Bye-bye Kortbroek!

What a tragedy!

Sat, 19 October 2002 06:13

President Mugabe is visiting a primary school and he visits one of
the classes. They are in the middle of a discussion related to words
and their meanings.

The teacher asks the president if he would like to lead the discussion
on the word "tragedy". So the illustrious leader asks the class for an
example of a "tragedy".

One little boy stands up and offers: "If my best friend, who lives on
a farm, is playing in the field and a war vet comes along and knocks
him dead with a log, that would be a tragedy."
"No," says Mugabe," that would be an accident."

A little girl raises her hand: "If a school bus carrying 50 children
drove over a cliff, killing everyone inside, that would be a tragedy."
"I'm afraid not," explains the president. "That's what we would call
a great loss."

The room goes silent. No other children volunteer. Mugabe searches the room.
"Isn't there someone here who can give me an example of a tragedy?"

Finally at the back of the room a small boy raises his hand. In a
quiet voice he says: "If a Zimbabwe Air Force jet carrying Mr &
Mrs Mugabe were struck by a missile and blown to smithereens,
that would be a tragedy."

"Fantastic!" exclaims Mugabe. "That's right. And can you tell me
why that would be tragedy?"

"Well," says the boy, "because it certainly wouldn't be a great
loss and it probably wouldn't be an accident either."

Hoeveel dae in 'n jaar?

Fri, 18 October 2002 04:52

Hoeveel dae in SA soos Moeders, Vaders, Kinders, Rooineus, "Casual" dag en

Dankie

Van der Merwe in Australia

Wed, 16 October 2002 19:18

Van der Merwe had never been out of South Africa before and was visiting
Bondi Beach, Australia.
He spotted a long line of black dots out in the water and said to an Aussie,
who was sitting close by,
"whot're all those liddle bleck things out there?"
"They're buoys," said the Aussie.
"Boys!" replied Van der Merwe. "Vot they doing out there?"
"Holding up the shark nets," the Aussie told him.
"Great country this!" said the South African, deeply impressed.
"We'd never get away with thet beck home!"
