NOW is the time to speak Afrikaans. Many people were shy about doing so
in the bad old days because of the racist connotations. But now it's an
endangered language needing speakers. With the white's diaspora from SA
it is being spoken in many little communities all over the world. This
network can be kept active through the internet. One now also sees quite
a bit of interest from overseas with people wanting to know more about
it, and sometimes to wanting to learn it.

You should watch the Afrikaans TV news.... there you will see
bits of spittle on the camera, and you will understand the
true Afrikaans "g". I agree with your description of Dutch,
but i would extend it to Afrikaans. However, Afrikaans is
a joke of a language. Have a look at the rich past tense
structure... (And English is nothing compared to other
languages, of course)

Also, the first night my husband and I went out on a date, he offered to

dinner and watched a movie, I could not understand why we would want to

called "dubbeltjies" the terribly sharp thorns
of a plant that grew along the ground and spread
