It depends on the meaning of the word "efficient"
how you would translate it into Afrikaans. If a
person is efficient, you can translate it also with
"bekwaam." If a process is efficient, you will
translate it with something like "doeltreffend."
Our Bosman and Van der Merwe gives the
following suggestions: voltreffend, doeltreffend,
kragdadig, geskik, saaklik.

Hi Bruce
The correct Afrikaans word for "efficient" is "doelmatig", while the English
"effective" translates into the Afrikaans "doeltreffend". (Slang word
"effektief" used sometimes as well.)
They say that when you use a hammer to kill a fly, you 're method is very
effective (doeltreffend), because you will definately get red of the fly,
but it is not very efficient (doelmatig), because you have to use a hell of
a lot of energy and will probably get rid of the table, wall, and a couple
of fingers as well.
