It was interesting to note the perceptions on the future of
Afrikaans, given the immense threat posed to the group at
present.
Although it is a young language, I do believe that it is in no
way under threat of dying out completely, due to the fervent
following following af a strong band Afrikaners still resident in
South Africa.
While there are many people dispersing geographically around the
world, the core of true Afrikaners will remain in Africa,
possibly relocating to areas more remote than they currently are,
but remaining untainted by the ravaging advances of the other
languages and cultures which would detract from their own
culture.
This will not be an easy feat, as it will be conveniently branded
as an attempt to mitigate the effects of cultural change in South
Africa. While it could be vigorously argued that such a move was
triggered more by a violent onslaught, than being based upon
racial grounds, the critics will no doubt dismiss this contention
as being propagandas.
Time will of course yield the answer to this question, however in
the meantime the silent onslaught continues.

Ja, ons weet. In 'n stad wat met
M begin, in 'n staat wat met M
begin. Het jy al ooit daaraan gedink
dat albei begin met die lettergreep
MIN?

Jy sit nie in SA nie. Jy sit nie in Australia
nie (want anders sal jou pos alreeds Dinsdag
aangegee het.) Jy sit in 'n tydsone wat wes
van my is. Een uur wes. Hoe gaan dit deesdae
daar by julle. Ons het 'n droogte hier by ons.
Die tulpe is alreeds af, nog voor die tulip
festival op dreef kan kom. Die lilacs is
mooi. Ek hoor die watervlakke in die Great
Lakes is so laag dat die skepe nie die
maksimum vragte kan opneem nie.
