This guy is TRYING to quote a traditionalAfrikaans song with this line:
"Dis te ver om
te loop, dis te na om te ry, Hoe sal ek maak
om die nooi te kry." (It is too far to walk,
too near to drive, what shall I do to get the
girl?")
Now, this guy is probably an English
speaking ex-South African now living in
New Zealand. He does not seem to know
Afrikaans that well, judging from his other
writings on the newsgroup. He must be
homesick, so he tries to write in Afrikaans
(for which I commend him.) But, instead
of saying "te na om te ry" (too near to drive)
he says " te naar om te loop." Now "naar"
means "sick to your stomach" among other
things.
