Social Development manager in Ngwelezane Thembinkosi Dlamini, 36,
might have been killed because he tried to end corruption in the
department's offices, MEC for Social Development in KwaZulu-Natal
Meshack Hadebe said on Thursday.
"His office was identified as the second one plagued by corruption,
which was adversely affecting the poor," Hadebe said.
Speaking after visiting Dlamini's family in Durban, Hadebe said he was
still shocked by the murder as Dlamini had only been working there for
two weeks.
"I suspect he might have discovered sensitive things in the office,"
Radebe said. "Dlamini took a zero tolerance approach to fraud and
corruption. That is why he was deployed," said Hadebe.
Police spokesperson Dir Phindile Hadebe said: "Witnesses say two men
entered his office under the pretext of needing help and fired six
shots.
"We are investigating a case of murder, but no arrests have been made
yet."
