I am absolutely convinced that through a
spiritual revival, Africa - seen as the dark
continent with all the negative sentiments
regarding poverty, unemployment, hiv/aids, crime
and corruption, prostitution, drugs and alcohol
abuse, etc - will be healed. (2 Chron 7:14).
This revival, I also believe, will happen
soon. To some extent I believe it has already
commenced.
We so seldom recognise and give thanks to God
for answered prayer. In Cape Town, the year 2000
saw many bombings (22 explosions in less than 2
years), we had water restrictions and crime and
violence were out of control.
Today, I give thanks to God as no bombs have
"exploded" in two and a half years, we have had
the greatest rainfall in 40 years over the past
two winters, and the crime statistics show a 60%
reduction since the beginning of 2001.
God cares for the continent of Africa far more
than you and I. He is more concerned and hurt than
you and I and wishes to turn this continent
around. I believe that we are challenged to
address a number of serious matters:
1. The disunity between churches, denominations
and Christian leaders is a matter that we need to
set right (Eph.4)
2. The idolatry in Africa in many forms
(foreign gods, wealth etc.) is a key factor which
makes God feel unwelcome.
3. The immorality in our continent is maybe of
the worst in the world. Hiv/aids is but one of the
visible results of this terrible sin.
2 Chron 7:13 - 14 is a serious warning and
promise from God:
v13 "When I shut up the heavens so that there
is no rain, or command locusts to devour the land
or send a plague among my people, v14 if my people
who are called by my name, will humble themselves
and pray and seek my face and turn from their
wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will
forgive their sin and will heal their land."
God promises to heal our land if we humble
ourselves and pray, and turn from our wicked ways
(live clean as instructed in the ten
commandments).
I see life as a short apprenticeship while on
earth - whereby you and I are placed in an
imperfect society and world, and we need to make
choices for this world or eternity. The love and
caring for our "neighbour", how we make a positive
difference in the lives of our family, friends,
colleagues and society, are tests of our faith.
Given each of our God-given talents, we each have
the responsibility to play our part, large or
small, in the Transformation of ourselves, our
family, workplace and society.
Please come to the nearest stadium to your
home on May 1 2003 and join together with millions
of other people as we pray to God for South Africa
and the rest of Africa.

Hy het die eerste bymekaar koms op Nuweland
Kaapstad ge - organiseer in 2001. Die Kapenaars
sal weet hoeveel mense sommer net spontaan daar
opgedaag het, mense van alle rasse en
denominasies.
