Die is nou wel in Engels, maar tog wel relevant, want dit is hoofsaaklik die

Zulu king wants to live like a king
By Mawande Jubasi
Officials in charge of the Zulu royal household have requested a 30%
increase in their budget so that they can keep the king in the style to
which he has become accustomed.
Ziphathe Cibane, chief financial officer of the royal household, told the
KwaZulu-Natal premier's portfolio committee this week that his department
was struggling to help the royal family make ends meet.
Bethuel Ngcobo, spokesman for King Goodwill Zwelithini, said another
R7.1-million was needed on top of the household's R21.5-million 2002/2003
budget.
The additional amount of R7-million would be allocated in the following way,
said Ngcobo: "[We need] R3.4-million for personnel, domestic workers and
support staff; and R2.5-million for equipment including the repair and
replacement of vehicles, office furniture and leases; while R1.2-million
will be used for professional services to cover the costs of fencing at the
king's palaces, and day-to-day repairs and maintenance."
Ngcobo said the department was now gearing itself for the commercialisation
of the king's farms. A farm manager was appointed in September to drive this
process.
"He has assessed the farming requirements and compiled a business plan that
will be tabled before the portfolio committee," Ngcobo said. "His major
obstacle in this process is the lack of initial capital outlay."
Ngcobo added that it was unclear whether the king's farms were running at a
loss or making a profit.
According to the royal household's financial statements, R10.6-million was
spent last year on personnel, R2.5-million on administration, R494 000 on
stores and livestock, R829 000 on equipment and R6.4-million on
"professional and special services". Miscellaneous expenses were R733 000.
Premier Lionel Mtshali said that as the political head of the department of
the royal household, it was his responsibility to ensure all of the king's
needs were met . "We will do everything in our power to see to it that we
provide all the necessary support and relief to the king's officials," he
said.
ANC representative on the portfolio committee, Lucky Gabela, said the king's
needs should be taken to the provincial Treasury to impress upon its
officials the financial constraints facing the royal household.
Chairman of the KwaZulu-Natal finance committee Cyril Xaba said his
department would look at the portfolio committee's budget presentation to
try to find out why the king's farms were not generating income.

Waarvoor moet ek betaal vir iemand anders se koning? Ek kan nie eers sien
hoekom die staat hom moet onderhou nie! Hy's mos die Zoeloe's se koning,
laat hulle hom onderhou as hulle hom so graag wil hê. Shaka en Dingaan wat
heppie met 200 beeste, 'n groterig gras hut en 10 vrouens - waat maak
Goodwill dan nou so special dat hy R29 miljoen per jaar nodig het?
