New call for applications for lottery funding
PRESS RELEASE
The New Year brings with it a new call for applications for funding from the
National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund (NLDTF). In 2001, a total of 3 705
applications were received for funding from proceeds of the National
Lottery. By the 11th January 2002, 1114 applicants were found to have met
the requirements and were allocated R178,9million. A total of 2364
applications did not meet the requirements and were rejected. The balance of
the applications are due to be adjudicated in the next weeks and the final
list of beneficiaries for the financial year would soon be made available.
The Distributing Agencies have subsequently come up with a revised set of
qualifying criteria for the 2002/2003 financial year. New applications and
proposals are invited from organisations that meet the criteria set out by
the different Distributing Agencies as well as those that have been
gazetted.
In the last round of funding, many of the applications were rejected because
of insufficient information supplied and/or incomplete applications. All
applicants are therefore urged to ensure that all the relevant information
in support of their applications is included. Due to the large number of
applications anticipated, it is regretted that only those applications that
are fully completed and received by the deadlines will be processed and
presented for adjudication.
Of great concern to the Members of the Distributing Agencies is the fact
that there were few applications from the Northern Cape and the North West
province. The community is urged to inform local organisations know that
there are funds available for projects that meet the requirements laid down.
Arts, Culture and National Heritage Sector
Arts
Applications are invited from organisations involved in major projects;
creative development; festivals; film production and development; public
arts; and arts development in rural areas.
Heritage
Priority will be given to projects involving the conservation of
architectural, archaeological and living heritage; promotion of indigenous
knowledge systems; and historical and cultural research/surveys.
Environment
Here emphasis is placed on organisations focussing on biodiversity in
conservation and eco-development; anti-pollution and anti-degradation of the
environment; temporary relief from disasters; prevention of the erosion of
the environment; and the regeneration of effected environments.
There are two closing dates for the Arts, Culture and National Heritage
sector viz. Friday, 15th February 2002 and Friday, 15th March 2002.
Charities Sector
Priority will be given to organisations involved in poverty alleviation;
capacity building; and those providing residential care for weak and
vulnerable.
In order to ensure that community-based organisations that are not
registered or do not have audited financial statements have equal access to
funding, the Charities Distributing Agency requests registered NGO's to
assist these non-registered CBO's in their application and further
administrative process. To effect this partnership, it is crucial that a
formal working-agreement be entered into.
The closing dates for this sector vary and are as follows:
KwaZulu Natal; Mpumalanga; North West; National Bodies - 15 March 2002
Gauteng; Northern Cape; Northern Province - 18 May 2002
Eastern Cape; Free State; Western Cape - 19 July 2002
Applications forms are available from Monday, 21st January 2002 and must be
requested by telephone (012 362 2922), fax (012 362 3899), email
(ar...@nlb.org.za or char...@nlb.org.za) or, by writing to the National
Lottery Distribution Trust Fund, Central Applications Office, Private Bag
X101, Brooklyn Square 0075.

Dankie TJ - ek sal definitief daar gaan kyk.

is.
