Niemand kan jou eintlik dwing om te betaal nie , aangesien jy nie die
ambulans bestel het nie. Of het jy papiere geteken wat se dis bakgat
jy wil in die ambulans rondry ?

Just to give a bit of perspective to middle-class white South African
paranoia about just how badly done by we all are:
I'm currently in Australia (against my will) while my wife completes her
PhD, based in Canberra (the national capital). A friend recently tore all
the ligaments in her leg, and was rushed off to hospital, where she waited
for over five hours before anyone could get to see her. Waiting lists for
"non-critital" surgery have just passed the six-month mark. State medical
care is not free, by the way: we pay about $5000/year for Medicare, plus
another 5% flat income levy.
However, this is all before the new "Liberal" government start their
economic rationalisation program. People here expect to have a situation
like the USA, where you can expect to shove 20% of your gross income into
medical insurance, and if you don't have it, well tough shits. Dying is
free (sort of).
If you think that life in SA is tough, try the US or Oz. You'll work your
ass off, be taxed until you cant bleed any more, and get sweet FA in
return. Or you can sit around whingeing that your rbbish is only
collected once a week, instead of twice (we are lucky -- ours is once
rather than fortnightly, even if most of it _is_ strewn all over the
pavement for us instead :-)).
Oh to get back home. I'll swap _any_ of you, any day of the week.

Oops! Didn't notice that one Adrian. Me and my big mouth (whats the typing
equivalent of that?). My humblest and sincerest apologies to all who
received that inappropriate message.
Is ek nou vergewe, of moet ek voor die Tutu kommissie verskyn?

The point is, other people decided to 'save his life' for him, and
then left him to pay the bill. What if the ambulance fee had been
R10 000 instead of R1100.. would your same logic still apply?

It depends. Was your action politically motivated or not? :-)
