FIRST AFRIKANER ORTHODOX PRIEST TO BE ORDAINED IN SOUTH AFRICA
Kobus van der Riet, a former classics lecturer at the University
of South Africa, will be the first Afrikaner to be ordained as an
Orthodox priest in South Africa.
He will be ordained by the Orthodox Archbishop of Johannesburg
and Pretoria, Metropolitan Seraphim, at St John the Baptist
Orthodox Church, Lobelia Road, Germiston, at 11:00 am on Sunday
June 2.
Kobus van der Riet went to study at St Tikhon's Orthodox Seminary
in the USA in 1997, and was ordained deacon two weeks ago in St
George's Orthodox Church in Brakpan.
