In addition people often refer to having someone man the
troll gate or
warn not to feed the trolls ... here is a neat description:

A troll is a post designed to disgust or shock a good
portion of a
group or simply to stir up the pot. "Troll" is a fishing
term meaning
to drag bait slowly through the water and catch fish on the
line. In
Usenet the troller drags his bait (offensive or pot-stirring
post )
through the group to see how many fish (indignant posts or
posts from
naive newbies) he can catch - those responding are his fish.
