After following - or trying to follow these post, I came to the conclusion
that the original spammer (I'm not sure who he is) doesn't have a clue about
webdesign and the work that goes into it, nor does he have a clue what he's
talking about. Sure you can do if for cheap, if you want to make a mess and
design your own page. But then you won't have any high-level stuff like
interesting perl and cgi and mysql programming. (You talk about CGI bins
from this free hosting companies. If someone don't know how to set up that
nifty binny, how's he gonna get it to work?) You won't have flash on your
site, which is difficult and HIGHLY specialised graphics and "programming".
If you're not all that good with graphics, well .......... "poof" that's
your site going up in flames.
If you want quality you pay for it. If you want crap, you don't simple as
that.
I would've spammed and shouted my hubby's webdesign company's URL out all
over the group, but alas I find spamming and spammers despicable, and don't
want to make myself guilty of the practice. And besides, he does nothing
for free.
Think about this, if you have a big company and you want to place an ad on
TV you can do it for free as well, just grab your home cam and your friends
and family as actors and there you go. But it wouldn't look very
proffesional will it? That's why you pay someone big bucks to do it for
you, to make it look proffesional. And that's why some companies are paying
big bucks for a webpage, to make it look proffesional.
There webpage is their showcase, their pride, it reflects on the company and
what they're like.

Ja dis waar, flash vat lank om te download as die onterwerper nie weet wat
hy doen nie. Ek ken 'n outjie wat baie goed is daarmee. Op die heel eerste
bladsy gee hy vir jou die keuse....wil jy die gewone plein HTML page sien of
wil jy die flash site sien. Om te keer dat jy horries kry terwyl jy wag om
die ding te download, laat hy jou 'n lekker "quiz" speletjie speel, wat ek
vir hom bymekaar sit. Dit kan nogal moeilik raak en ons verloor die
besoekers a.g.v daarvan nie.
Jou opmerking oor "kry gewoon Frontpage" is ook nie lekker nie, Frontpage,
en ook enige ander wysiwyg editor, het 'n manier om van jou "coding" op te
neuk en dan moet jy weet hoe om dit te fix, deur in daai code te gaan
rondgrawe. As jy nie die eerste ding van HTML en JavaScript af ken nie,
gaan jou page maar nog steeds nie "lekker" lyk nie

As die "flasher" nie weet wat hy doen nie, sal dit lank neem om the
"download", maar as hy weet wat hy doen, sal hy die "flash" op breek in
kleiner stukkies en die hele "site" sal vinnig beweeg, want hy kry net wat
hy soek. Wanneer ek "flash sites" doen, maak ek seker dat alles opgebreek
is, sodat die besoeker nie kry wat hy nie wil hê nie. Ek beplan my "flash
sites" op amper dieselfde manier hoe ek "framed sites" beplan vir gewone
HTML.
Flash is vinnig, maar: as jy die klank gaan stoot, dan gaan dit stadig wees;
as jy die hele site stoot, dan gaan dit stadig wees; as jy iets stoot wat
nie versoek is nie, dan gaan dit stadig wees en die besoekers gaan
geiriteerd wees.
