Ha ha ... Pragtig Gloudina! Nouja, ons het die raaisel van die doppies
nog nie opgelos nie, maar die ou Farao is immers op sy plek gesit.
Afrikaans is pragtig, en hy en bleah kan probeer tot die koeie huistoe
kom om ons daarvan te laat afsien, maar praat gaan ons hom praat.

As children we used an empty cartridge case as a whistle by blowing
over the open end. This required some skill but served no purpose
other than passing time. I assumed this to be the origin of
the expression. In view of the possibilities you mention, I am
probably wrong.

Ek kan onthou hoe ons as kinders die doppies van akkers gebruik het om mee
te vluit. En dit is waarna ons verwys het as ons 'n ander kind vertel het
om te gaan doppies blaas. Het dit ook nog nooit gebruik om vir iemand te se
hy mors sy tyd, meer dat hy moet "voetsek".
