Idioom: Hulle tameletjie het verbrand:
Gesê van vriende wat rusie gekry het.
(Said of close friends who have quarreled.)
The meaning of the word "tameletjie" is given
in our Bosman en van der Merwe dictionary as
"butter-scotch," much to my surprise. For me
the word tameletjie describes the end product of
a method of drying fruit, where the fruit is made
into a pulp, then usually smeared half an inch high
onto brown paper that is slightly oiled, and then
left to dry. It is then usually rolled up and eaten that
way. So it could also be called "fruit rolls."
I do not have any idea from where the word came
into Afrikaans. I would suspect from the Malay, but
cannot be sure. Does anybody know?

Dit laat my nou dink aan die grappie van: Wat het gebeur met Rooikappie toe
sy op die warm stoof gaan sit ? Antw: Aspoestertjie. Maar ek sal liewer nie

Van die oorsprong van die woord weet ek ongelukkig niks, maar tameletjie kan
of daai harde karamellekkers wees, of vrugterol.
Volgens die HAT:
"1) lekkergoed, dikwels met neute, 2) gemaalde droë vrugte wat plat gerol
is"
Die eerste een is baie maklik om te maak (en jou ma die moer in mee te
maak): smelt suiker en botter in 'n pan tot dit 'n ligbruin karamelkleur het
(vanilla of suurlemoengeursel of neute opsioneel), gooi uit in 'n
kolwyntjiepan en laat koud word. NB HARDLOOP WEG SODAT JY NIE DIE PAN HOEF
TE WAS NIE.

Hi, Stefan. Vanoggend lê die wereld wit van
die sneeu hier by ons. Hoe gaan dit daar by
julle?
"So taai soos 'n tameletjie" slaan terug na
my kennis daarvan as vrugterolle. Ek het groot
geword met veral vye-tameletjie.

As dit lente was, sou ek sê dis WARM, (dis nou minus 4 met 'n suidewind)
maar dinge lyk mos anders nou met die koue aan die kom.
