There is a very good book I can recommend which is even called "The
Development of Afrikaans". Unfortunately, I can't remember the name of the
author. I found the book in our library at the University of Mainz, Germany.
This book gives you very detailed information (with examples from original
letters and texts) on the history of the Afrikaans language, both from a
linguistic and cultural point of view.
I doubt that you would find anything comparable on the web.
