Hi Ragnar,
As a native Dutch speaker (yes, I am from Holland), I recommend you not to
learn Dutch in order to be able to speak Afrikaans. Dutch is quite a
difficult language to master as it is, and I must say that I too have great
difficulty understanding what is written in Afrikaans in this newsgroup.
Both grammar and vocabulary are rather different from Dutch. I'd say start
learning Afrikaans and don't bother about Dutch, as I might do the same
thing.

nou, zo moeilijk is het ook weer niet. Ben jij ooit in Zuid-Afrika
geweest?

De grammatica van Afrikaans is een makkelijke versie van de Nederlandse
grammatica. Je zegt dus 'ek is' in plaats van 'ik ben'. Met andere
woorden, als je de Nederlandse grammatica beheerst, is de Afrikaanse
grammatica zeer snel aan te leren. Wat de woordenschat betreft, ongeveer
90% van de woorden komt uit het Nederlands dus die 10% onbekende woorden
zijn wel lastig, maar niet onverkomelijk. Met enige oefening onthoud je
wel, dat een seekoei een nijlpaard is!
Wat vinden de Afrikaners in deze nieuwsgroep hiervan ?
