In a post a while ago Andrew Harwood of Ottawa
recommended some of the following books that
you will find on the Schoenhof's list:
Groenewald, P. "Learn to speak Afrikaans"
Publisher Shuter & Shooter
Price $8.95
The author begins by using words that are the same
in both English and Afrikaans.
"Teach yourself Afrikaans" (National Textbook Company)
Price $16.95. Teaches the language as it is used in day
to day situations.
Holloway G. "Painless Afrikaans"
Publisher Juta Price: $ 13.95
Tapes:
Language 30 Afrikaans (Audio-Forum) tapes
Publisher Audio-Forum Price $21.95
Conversaphone Afrikaans Language Course
in one cassette. Publisher: Conversaphone
Price $9.98
Dictionaries: There are a number of Dictionaries
listed on Schoenhof's page. We are using
"Tweetalige Skool-Woordeboek" by
Bosman, Van der Merwe and Barnes
Publisher: Nasou. I think this is the
one listed with price $ 29.95 on
Schoenhofs. We find this quite adequate.
This is a shortened version of the larger
"Tweetalige Woordeboek" by the same
authors, and is produced for use in
secondary schools.
