Hi,
I am a linguist from Belgium.
I am very much interested in 'het Afrikaans', more specifically in
certain links between the present Afrikaans and our Middle Dutch
(Middelnederlands).

At present I am busy with a comparison in abusive language (I know, a
weird subject, but still: interesting and even intriguing sometimes!).

I know that the word MOER (=African) is a very impolite word, an
insult for everyone.
However, the meaning (and/or origin) of this abusive word intrigues
me: in present Dutch this word (moer) means nothing more than a female
rabbit.
What exactly does it mean in the African language?

Please, be not insulted by this question!
It is merely for my linguistic study, and the answer would help me a
lot! It is rather urgent too!

Thank you.

In less advanced circles the word can mean "to hit/hurt" or "needs to be
hit/hurt". For example: "Ek gaan jou moer" means "I will hurt you".
The word's "Jou moer" means "You are somebody that needs to be hurt".

It "good" society it does mean "Coffee Grounds" and that's also how I
would prefer to remember/think of it.
