Miskien is Nataniël reg: Daar is boerewors en politiek, maar waar is
die kuns?
Day Seven and I finally manage to see a show just for the fun of it.
Ek stap deur Oudtshoorn om Tip! te gaan kyk.
For an hour I laugh at this hilarious look at lunch-hour loneliness
and behind-the-scenes bitching in a not-so-busy coffee shop.
Watching the show, I am struck anew by something that most people
(selfs die Ingelse) have to acknowledge: Geen taal vloek soos
Afrikaans vloek nie. Somehow "Oh, Sh*t!" just
doesn't compare to a lekker "Ag-nee K*K man!"
Woorde is kuns en ek is mal oor woorde. One of the most surprising
things about Stellenbosch (en die fees) has been my reaction to the
delicious new words I am encountering on a daily basis.
On my first weekend back home, my brother thought I'd gone mad when I
walked around saying the word "bronne" at random moments.
Lovely word! (Ja, ek weet, een van my klasmaats het ook gedink ek is
mal toe ek dit vir haar sê.)
The next week it was "woordvoerder" - someone who transports words?
Aaah . . . a spokesperson! "Woordvoerder . . ." What a magic word!
So, at Stellenbosch and at the fees I have on most days felt like a
kid in a candy store of heerlike nuwe woorde.
Which brings me to my mission right now. There is one thing I am not
leaving Oudtshoorn without. Vanaand gaan ek shop.
I can't wait to see my classmates and lecturers' faces when I arrive
at classes on Monday morning in my brand-new "Praat Afrikaans of hou
jou Bek!" T-shirt.
The idea is just too delicious to resist.

En uit watter bronne sou hierdie woordvoerder sy wyshede bekom het?:)
Die een woord wat my nekhare laat rys, is "bemagtiging" wat links en regs
gebruik word.
